Examining the cancellation mechanism of neutron EDM in a model with dilaton-dominated susy breaking

    We examine the cancellation mechanism between the different contributions to the electric dipole moment of the neutron in a model with dilaton-dominated SUSY breaking. We find these accidental cancellations occur at few points in parameter space. For a wide region of this space we must constrain the phase of μ\mu to be of order 10110^{-1} and have the phases of AA and μ\mu strongly correlated in order to have small neutron EDM. Moreover, we consider the indirect CP violation parameter ϵ\epsilon in this region where the electric dipole moment is less than the experimental limit and find that we can generate ϵ\epsilon of order 10610^{-6}

    Magnetic Response of Magnetospirillum Gryphiswaldense

In this study we modelled and measured the U-turn trajectories of individual magnetotactic bacteria under the application of rotating magnetic fields, ranging in ampitude from 1 to 12 mT. The model is based on the balance between rotational drag and magnetic torque. For accurate verification of this model, bacteria were observed inside 5 m tall microfluidic channels, so that they remained in focus during the entire trajectory. From the analysis of hundreds of trajectories and accurate measurements of bacteria and magnetosome chain dimensions, we confirmed that the model is correct within measurement error. The resulting average rate of rotation of Magnetospirillum Gryphiswaldense is 0.74 +- 0.03 rad/mTs.Comment: 17 pages, 12 figure

Automated Detection of Coronal Loops using a Wavelet Transform Modulus Maxima Method

We propose and test a wavelet transform modulus maxima method for the au- tomated detection and extraction of coronal loops in extreme ultraviolet images of the solar corona. This method decomposes an image into a number of size scales and tracks enhanced power along each ridge corresponding to a coronal loop at each scale. We compare the results across scales and suggest the optimum set of parameters to maximise completeness while minimising detection of noise. For a test coronal image, we compare the global statistics (e.g., number of loops at each length) to previous automated coronal-loop detection algorithms

Supersymmetric origin of a low aJ/psia_{J/psi} CP asymmetry

We show that general Minimal Supersymmetric extensions of the Standard Model (MSSM) allow for a CP asymmetry in B --> J/psi K(S) well bellow the SM expectations with dominant Supersymmetric contributions to epsilon_K and epsilon'/epsilon. Indeed, we provide an explicit example of an MSSM with non-universal soft breaking terms fully consistent with the low results of this asymmetry recently announced by Babar and Belle collaborations.Comment: 6 pages, no figures. Sterile neutrino dark matter in BLB-L extension of the standard model and galactic 511 keV line

    Get PDF
Sterile right-handed neutrinos can be naturally embedded in a low scale gauged U(1)BLU(1)_{B-L} extension of the standard model. We show that, within a low reheating scenario, such a neutrino is an interesting candidate for dark matter. We emphasize that if the neutrino mass is of order of MeV, then it accounts for the measured dark matter relic density and also accommodates the observed flux of 511 keV photons from the galactic bulge.Comment: 10 pages, 1 figure, references added, final version appeared in JCA

Flavour-dependent SUSY phases and CP asymmetry in B -> X_s gamma decays

We study the direct CP asymmetry in B -> X_s gamma decay in SUSY models with non-universal A-terms. We show that the flavour-dependent phases of the A-terms, unlike the flavour-independent ones, can give rise too large contribution to the CP asymmetry while respecting the experimental bounds on the branching ratio of B -> X_s gamma decay and the electric dipole moments of the electron and neutron. The CP asymmetry of this decay is predicted to be much larger than the standard model prediction in a wide region of the parameter space. In particular, it can be of order 10-15% which can be accessible at B factories.Comment: 4 pages, 2 figure

Cultural Dimensions’ Effects on Perceptions of Learning Using Social Media: A Comparative Study between the University of Sharjah and the University of Arkansas Students

    Get PDF
This research examines the impact of cultural dimensions on perceptions of social media as an educational tool in two different contexts. The study included 815 students volunteered to answer the survey questions from the University of Sharjah (UoS) in the United Arab Emirates and the University of Arkansas (UoA) in the United States of America. The results were analyzed via SPSS, and then counteracted with a Push-pull-mooring model to check for differences in terms of cultural contexts that would be reflected in perceptions of the value of social media in learning. The results reveal a number of differences. Students from the University of Sharjah are more immersed in social media for learning, and more interested in forming strong, long-term, and reliable collaborative friendships based on the exchange of ideas and academic assistance. By contrast, students from the University of Arkansas seem to be short-term oriented because their use of social media is related to discussion and instant chat. The authors conclude that UoS students’ perceptions reflect a culture of collectivism that invests in social networks to enhance the already deeply rooted offline social activities, while those from UoA reveal a culture of individualism in which social media use is restricted to self-information

Low scale B-L extension of the Standard Model at the LHC

    Get PDF
The fact that neutrinos are massive indicates that the Standard Model (SM) requires extension. We propose a low energy (<TeV) B-L extension of the SM, which is based on the gauge group SU(3)_C x SU(2)_L x U(1)_Y x U(1)_{B-L}. We show that this model provides a natural explanation for the presence of three right-handed neutrinos in addition to an extra gauge boson and a new scalar Higgs. Therefore, it can lead to very interesting phenomenological implications different from the SM results which can be tested at the LHC. Also we analyze the muon anomalous magnetic moment in this class of models. We show that one-loop with exchange Z' may give dominant new contribution ~ few x 10^{-11}.Comment: 12 page

Performance Evaluation of Power Efficient Mechanisms on Multimedia over LTE-A Networks

    Get PDF
Power optimization is a critical challenge in multimedia services over cellular communication systems. Long Term Evolution-Advanced (LTE-A) has been developed for higher bandwidth access for accommodating today’s heavy data applications to provide better performance. Idle mode permits cellularstations to manipulate power and sources with the aid of limiting its activity for discrete periods and this eliminates the lively requirement for handover and other ordinary operations. Also, provides a periodical method for the cell station for pending downlink traffic directed to the cellularstation and as a result gets rid network handover traffic from basically inactive cellular stations. Discontinuous Reception (DRX) has been carried out to decrease the power intake of the consumer device, and transmission of big quantity of data. At data transfer, mobile device and the network phases negotiation occur. During other times, the device turns its receiver off and enters a low power state. Thereby similarly assisting numerous services and big quantities of information transmissions. This study prepossession of a massive quantity of data. Also proposes the two-power optimization modes idle mode and DRX mode parameters to achieve maximum possible power saving with the higher quality of multimedia services. Furthermore, the effectiveness of using DRX short cycles and DRX long cycles on multimedia services and the overall performance. Using OPNET Simulator 17.5, it concluded that DRX mechanism is preferred to operate compared with the Idle mechanism, also resulted that the DRX long cycles are a very good choice for all multimedia services and the overall network performance
